Police Accountability

Thanks to Councilmember Jesse Arreguin, the City Council passed several measures that improve police accountability. However, three important areas need further improvement:

1) The Police Review Commission has been rendered almost impotent.

2) The Council annually renews an agreement with Homeland Security which gives the police access to outrageous military equipment, including tanks. We would like to thank our police force for not taking advantage of some of the options available to them.

3) The Council also routinely renews an agreement between the City police and a regional database. On the face of it, this seems like a good idea. The problem is that Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) are logged in the database. What’s a Suspicious Activity Report? It can be as little as a neighbor reporting that you were standing outside a house for 5 minutes one night. 1984, 30 years late?

You realize so much its almost tough to argue
with you (not that I personally will need to…HaHa). You certainly put a fresh
spin on a topic that has been discussed for many years. Wonderful stuff, just excellent!
